The Hand of God

God Is in the Little Things

I had an experience a few days ago that I would like to share. It was a “touch” from God in an ordinary, everyday situation.

First let me set the scene. I went to Meijer at mid-morning on a Wednesday. I just had to pick up a few things. There were not many people in the store. The Meijer we go to has two driveways; one with a traffic light and one without. The one without a light is the closest path for me to use to get home. The driveway with the light is out of my way and usually we have to wait for the light to change.

My “normal” is to use the driveway with the light at busy traffic times and use the one without a light when traffic is lighter. The other fact that relates to the story is there is a Walgreens straight across the road at the driveway that has the traffic light.

As I finished my shopping, I got into my car and started driving out of the parking lot. I am slowly heading toward the exit when I realize I am headed to the exit where the traffic light is. I thought to myself, “Why am I going out this driveway instead of the one closer to where I want to go?” The funny thing is I still had time to turn to the other driveway, but didn’t. Going to the light felt strangely like the right thing to do, but I still didn’t know why.

As I pulled up to the traffic light I saw Walgreens across the street. It was then that I remembered Lin telling me the day before that Walgreens had Dasani 24 packs on sale for $3.99; which is usually $5.99. I altered my route, went to Walgreens, bought two packs and saved $4 of our grocery budget.

I am not saying there was some awesome movement in the spiritual world. I just recognized my Lord was showing me He is always with me. He will guide me in the little things in life, if I allow His leading. When I recognize His leading in little things, I then begin to have the faith I will need to believe He will lead me in bigger things; like writing this blog or sharing His truth with someone in need.

So many things go through my mind when things like this happen to me. I believe everything we have is His and if He knew how to save $4 to be used elsewhere, He certainly can help us pick out the right kitchen cabinets as we redo our kitchen after a disaster (another complete story) or He can help us decide how long to drive our 2005 Sable that currently has 327,000 miles on it. My desire is to see how far it will go. (A pride issue maybe.) However, I feel His nudging me to look into replacing it. He knows if the car is safe and cost effective to drive. I tell people this car is like “shoes in the dessert” for the Israelites. Yet I believe even they eventually got new shoes when their dessert time was complete ☺

I guess my point is God is in the little things to help us have “eyes to see” when He is in the big things. We had family in the path of the winter storm Jonas in January. He was there protecting them. All He asked us to do was pray, recognize He is sovereign and trust His will be done. I am always amazed when a little thing like the story above can be used to help me see the awesomeness of God. He is truly amazing; Praise His Name.
