Promoting of Grace
by Paul Trautwein
What sadness I felt when I read Paul Sullivan’s column in the Chicago Tribune on the Sugar Bowl. He doesn’t understand why the Eagles coach and players would thank God after their win. He also thought that the $8 million per 30 seconds for religious Super Bowl ads would be better spent if given to people in dire need of help.
Because of God’s holiness and His justice, we all have to stand before Him at the end of the age, and we all fall short. But the great news of the Gospel is that Jesus bore the penalty of our sins at the cross. It’s really an eternal lifeline for us if we accept it. The thought of someone facing God’s eternal judgement is horrifying to me. The book of Revelation in the Bible gives a glimpse of it.
The most loving thing anyone can do is to tell others about the wonderful grace that Jesus offers us. It is my prayer that Sullivan and others who watched the ad would take hold of that lifeline.
