Two totally different reactions to healing- Jesus Heals a Royal Official’s Son, read John 4:43-54

Jesus and disciples leave the Samaritans and finish their trip back to Cana where He performed His first miracle. There was a Royal Official 20 miles away in Capernaum. His son was sick and about to die. The official heard Jesus was back and made the trip to Cana to beg Jesus to come to his house and heal his son. Verses 49-53 tell the story of the healing of his son.
49 The royal official said, “Sir, come down before my child dies.”
50 “Go,” Jesus replied, “your son will live.” The man took Jesus at His word and departed. (Only God could inspired that kind of faith). 51 While he was still on the way, his servants met him with the news that his boy was living. 52 When he inquired as to the time when his son got better, they said to him, “Yesterday, at one in the afternoon, the fever left him.”
53 Then the father realized that this was the exact time at which Jesus had said to him, “Your son will live.” So, he and his whole household believed.”

As far as we know, this man was not Jewish, but probably Roman. The child was 20 miles away. The man took Jesus at His word. Total faith! He just went back home believing and later his servants confirmed it. That is not a normal human reaction without God’s intervention. He wanted Jesus to come to his son’s bedside, but he believed the healing and went home. His life after this could never be the same. Every time he saw his son he would remember Jesus.

Again, get into John’s shoes. He has no idea how Jesus can heal a boy 20 miles away. What would you be thinking? I wonder if the disciples every got the news of confirmation of the healing. Did they believe he was healed? An amazing story to ponder. Think of John at 80, remembering this as he writes. Amazing!
