Thoughts from two different sources crossed my path within a short time frame that, when weaved together, speak deeply to my heart. First is a book by Dallas Willard titled “The Scandal of the Kingdom”. This is an amazing study of Jesus’ Parables that I highly recommend. The second is a song by J. J. Heller “You Already Know”. You can find it on U Tube. It is beautiful.
Lyrics from the song speak of God’s sovereignty. He knows from the beginning to the end. He knew everything that would happen to each of us before time began. He not only knows the “valleys” we enter into, but He also knows the outcome of the situations. Here are lyrics from it.
I need to tell You that I’m scared
I feel completely unprepared
And nothing’s what it was two weeks ago
But You already know
You already know
Everything I’m scared of
Everything I hope
You hold my tomorrow
And all tomorrow holds
You already know
I can’t seem to find the easy answers
Someday, I hope the suffering makes sense
I just need to know that You are with me
Even if You keep me in suspense
We talk so much these days
Because I have so much to say
You stay and listen to me closely even though
You already know
You already know
Everything I’m scared of
Everything I hope
You hold my tomorrow
And all tomorrow holds
You already know
I love the words, “You stay and listen to me closely even though You already know”. It brings to my mind a picture of loving parents listening to the cares of their child, knowing all along everything will be just fine. If it is a thunderstorm or a scrapped knee, the child just needed that calm assurance only their parents can bring. We are the same. We need the calm assurance only our Heavenly Father can bring through His Holy Spirit.
In the book, Dallas Willard makes this statement, “As we use our power of choice to turn our minds to God, we have greater contact with God throughout our day, developing a conversational relationship with Him”. An ongoing conversation with our Lord through the Holy Spirit. In 1 Thessalonians 5:17, Paul says “Pray without ceasing”. The Holy Spirit is given to every believer when they entrust their lives to Jesus and make Him their Lord. People totally surrendered to Jesus as their Lord. The definition of lord is a person with authority, control or power over others. Jesus is Lord of all!
It is then that we can move into the “conversational relationship” that Dallas Willard wrote about. When faced with a question or issue, if we simply seek His advice, He will bring scripture and answers to life’s question, small and large. He knows where your misplaced keys are and He knows the outcome of a serious illness. We need to remember God already knows the outcome. He knows if we are going to listen to the Holy Spirit or go it on our own. He already knows.
As we learn to listen to the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we begin to live the “Fruit of the Spirit” found in Galatians 5:22-23, “22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control.” Peace is a fruit only God can bring when we are in a dark valley and cannot see our way out. But if we believe like the song says, “You hold my tomorrows and all tomorrow holds”, we will find what Paul wrote in Philippians 4:7, “the peace that passes all understanding”.
The song, You Already Know, is one of those faith building things that our Father has brought into my life. Sometimes we ask Google to play it and put it on repeat. Then we just set there and soak it in. Just having the assurance that He already knows what lies ahead brings a deep peace.

Tom, thanks for your Spirit-given insight. I enjoy our times together on Monday evenings. Bill C
BSF has been used by the Holy Spirit to help me grow in my faith. I am so thankful we have this summer study.
