Counting Daily Blessings

In the middle of a couple of months of illness, my wife, Lin, found a concept that has brought peace in the “valley of the shadow”. It is called the Four Quadrants. The idea is to end your day remembering the blessings our Lord has brought all around us.

The Quadrants are-

Ten ways the Lord brought you a blessing today.

Three things the Lord is helping you learn on your journey with Him.

Five people that have been a blessing to you recently.

What was the highlight of your day today?

As we have done this together the last few weeks it has ushered in noticeable peace in our home. We are able to go to bed leaving the cares of the world behind and concentrating on the goodness our Lord brings into our lives every day, even in the midst of illness and the craziness all around us in this world.

At the same time we discovered how to find sermon series from Alistair Begg on his Truth For Life website. He has been one of our favorite teachers of Scripture for years. We listen to a sermon almost every night. We first went through Esther. The sermon series of 15 messages was preached in 2013. Then we listened to a series on Ruth. That series has 10 messages and was preached in 2001. We are currently going through a series on the life of Joseph that was preached in 1996.

Having grown up in the 1950’s and 60’s, before all the technology we have today, it is amazing to me that we can hear God’s truth on demand today when it was presented decades ago. We are blessed by the thoughts authored by Alistair Begg so many years ago.

It goes to prove that the blessings of our Lord are all around us if we just stop and look for them. I will always be amazed how our Lord can find the right message at the right time to share with us in our time of need. Even if its origin was years ago, our Lord can lead us to the truth we need to hear when we need to hear it.
